Founded in 2023, You Matter Community Project was built on a simple belief: people deserve to know they matter, especially during life's hardest moments.
We are a community-centered nonprofit serving individuals and families across DC, Maryland, and Virginia. What began as a simple effort to help people in our community has grown into an organization focused on providing direct, practical support where it can make a meaningful difference.
We believe helping doesn't have to be complicated. Sometimes it means providing groceries to a family going through a difficult month. Sometimes it's making sure a child has food for the weekend, helping someone without stable housing get basic necessities, or giving a child the opportunity to participate in youth sports.
Whatever the need, we want people to feel seen, supported, and reminded that they matter.
Our approach is centered on meeting immediate needs and removing barriers for individuals and families in our community.
Rather than limiting assistance to narrowly defined programs, we listen to the need in front of us and determine how we can make a meaningful difference.
Our support includes groceries, clothing, hygiene products, diapers and formula, household necessities, pet food and supplies, and essential items for our unhoused neighbors. We also work with local schools to provide food for children to take home on weekends and provide youth sports scholarships for families who otherwise may not be able to afford for their children to participate.
Every person, family, and situation is different. That flexibility allows us to put resources where they can have a direct and immediate impact.
Meet the need. Remove the barrier. Remind people they matter.
This work is made possible by individuals, volunteers, donors, schools, businesses, and local organizations who believe in showing up for people when they need it most.
Donations help put essential resources directly into the hands of those who need them.
Volunteers help us collect, organize, and distribute support. Schools and local organizations help us identify needs, while businesses and other partners help us extend our reach.
Whether you give your time, resources, expertise, or simply help spread the word, you're helping us meet more needs and remove more barriers across the DMV.
Because sometimes making a difference starts with something simple:
Showing someone they matter.
